Harry Zoutsos left his native village in Greece and struck out for America. His travels eventually brought him to California, where he purchased a plot of land for $2,200 to raise goats. During the next half century, extensive urban growth sent the value of land skyrocketing, and Zoutsos' $2,200 investment jumped in value to $150,000. When Zoutsos died, he left no will and no known heirs. After a detailed investigation, our researchers located his widow, and sole heir, living in the high mountains of Evvoia, an island off the coast of Greece. She hadn't heard from her husband since he deserted her in 1914. |
