NEWS VENDOR HAD SECRET PAST
Sacramento news vendor
Charles Scheel was a mystery man. When he died, he left $67,000 in cash
in a paper bag, but no will. He had no known family. Documents listed
his age as 76, but research showed his true age to be 59. An interview
with a former customer indicated that Scheel was a native of
Pennsylvania. That state's vital statistics records revealed that Scheel
was once married and had a daughter. Scheel's former wife died just two
weeks before he did, but his daughter-- and 22 cousins -- were found
living in Pennsylvania. The daughter, who was determined to be the sole
heir to her father's estate, had no idea of his whereabouts, or the fact
that she had cousins living nearby.
